HCBS Legislative Updates – September

    Last month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the 2020 Medicaid and CHIP Beneficiary Profile report where it provides an overview of the characteristics, health status, access, utilization, expenditures, and experience of the beneficiaries served by Medicaid and CHIP.

     

    Some key facts from the report include:

    • As of 2021, 80,543,351 individuals were reported for Medicaid and CHIP enrollment.
    • 7% of those enrolled in Medicaid, CHIP, or other government health plan in 2018 and 2019 were 65+ year old.
    • 2% of adults 65+ enrolled in Medicaid, CHIP, or other government health plan in 2018 and 2019 reported having a disability.
    • 6% of adults 65+ enrolled in Medicaid, CHIP, or other government health plan in 2018 and 2019 reported difficulty with walking or climbing steps, and 2.3% reported difficulty with self-care.
